Thailand: Coalition partners welcome road map

Ruam Chart Pattana agreed with the national reconciliation road map and the planned November 14 general election unveiled by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva last night, party leader and Energy Minister Wannarat Channukul said.

“If all parties accept the reconciliation plan, the negative impact of political uncertainty on the economy will be minimized and the country can move forward”, Mr Wannarat said on Tuesday.

He said the government will have to wait for response from leaders of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), but he believed they would agree with the road map.

His party was ready for the November 14 general election.

Commerce Minister and secretary general of Bhumjaithai Party Porntiva Nakasai took the same tone.

Mrs Porntiva said on Tuesday that the proposed road map was acceptable to the Bhumjaithai party and that she thought the Nov 14 was a suitable timeframe.

She affirmed that her party was ready for the forthcoming election.

The commerce minister believed the red-shirt leaders would also accept the reconciliation plan as all parties want the country to have peace.
