Myanmar top leader warns against conspiracy ahead of election




YANGON, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar top leader Senior-General Than Shwe Saturday warned against conspiracy ahead of election due later this year, saying that "saboteurs from inside and outside the country are making to harm the election and to hinder the seven-step roadmap".

Than Shwe, Chairman of the ruling State Peace and Development Council, made the remarks in his message on the occasion of the International Workers Day which falls on Saturday.

Than Shwe urged workers in the country to ward off attempts of saboteurs and aliens to interfere and to sow seeds of mistrust in Myanmar while further fostering their unyielding spirit, anti- colonial spirit, nationalism and union spirit.

He stressed the need for the workers to join hands with the entire people for the successful implementation of the government' s roadmap.

He honored the country's workers for their striving with intellectual and physical power for national modernization and development and social improvement of the entire people.

Under the fifth step of the government's seven-step roadmap announced in 2003, a multi-party democracy general election is to be held later this year in accordance with the 2008 new state constitution to produce parliament representatives and form a new civilian government to which the state power is said to be transferred from the military.
