Thais' political crisis: PM rejects calls for resignation and House dissolution

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva Wednesday morning refused to neither dissolve the House nor resign despite the Red Shirts' mass rally.

Prime Minister Abhisit rushed to move to the another car after Red Shirt's blocking him

"The government will not dissolve Parliament,'' Abhisit told reporters after launching an anti-drunk driving campaign ahead of the Songkran Festival next week.

"We will only do so if it is an appropriate solution. We will not respond to threats of violence. I will not resign."

Abhisit said the government would not yield to law violators.

"I can assure you there will no violence starting from the government's side," Abhisit said.

"If anybody causes chaos or breaks the laws and gets arrested, sharp legal action will be taken against that person. We have close circuit cameras to record the pictures as evidence and we will take full action," he said.

"There are some people who want chaos, but the government will do everything to restrain them," he said.

Abhisit said government security agencies have unity in their work. However, the government must tighten security measures in preparation for the Asean Plus Six meeting in Pattaya later this week.

He said all the leaders have confirmed to join the meeting.

After his car was attacked by the red shirts in Pattaya on Tuesday, Abhisit still used his car.

He said he had learnt reports of planned attack against him before what happened in Pattaya, but he did not change to use bulletproof vehicle as he still believed he would be safe.
