Burma Update: General Than Shwe moves to further isolation?

BDD

Current removal of Kyaw Thu, a deputy foreign minister and chairing ASEAN-UN-SPDC joint committee for Nargis seemed that Than Shwe and his hardliners decided to move further away from the international community.

Burmese junta had been credited by few EU and many ASEAN countires that generals' willingness of cooperation with international community is over, Asian diplomat told BDD. We had only communication with deputy minister Kyaw Thu, who understands us more and we normally offered him to things faster and smoother, but things would be uncertain with a new man, he continued.

General Than Shwe reportedly upset with Chinese FM during Chinese foreign minister's visit to Naypyidaw end of last year. "Than Shwe isn't able to work with international community included China, if he feels that any countries using pressures or forced suggestions, then he rather stays away from them." report said. Chinese reportedly pointed out the realistic and relations between country's development and energy sectors that they have provided help and assistance.

He cut off only channel he has with the world, former deputy foreign minister who did more than 95% of junta's international relations. Recently, Kyaw Thu visited ASEAN member countries and discussed the bilateral relations, now redo all from the beginning? Asian diplomat questioned.
