YANGON, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar Union Election Commission has warned that if a registered political party fails to list the prescribed number of party members to the commission within 90 days for entering the coming election, the party will be de-registered and abolished, an official daily quoted a statement of the commission as reporting Saturday.
The commission, citing the party registration law, said if a party, which is to canvass in the whole union, shall enlist at least 1,000 members, while if a party, which is to canvass in only one region or state, shall enlist 500 members, adding that such lists of members shall be prepared township-wise within the period, according to the New Light of Myanmar.
According to the commission, scrutiny of party registration is underway and after completion of the scrutiny, the election date will be announced.
So far, the commission has granted formation of 37 new and old political parties out of a total of 42 seeking for registration or re-registration for election purpose.
