A bomb exploded outside Bangkok Bank's head office on Silom Road last night, damaging a public telephone booth and a taxi. There were no reports of injuries.

A hand grenade was also thrown at the front of the bank's Rama II branch but it failed to explode, according to witnesses.

Police were alerted about the explosion at the bank's head office shortly after 9pm. According to police, two men approached on a motorcycle and one them threw a grenade at the building.

The impact of the explosion caused a hole in the road in front of the bank. Some of the bank's windows and a name sign were also damaged.

The driver of the damaged taxi told police that one of the assailants wore a full-size helmet but the pillion rider did not. The pillion rider hurled the grenade at the bank, he said.
