Sources close to regime said that SPDC has considered to postpone its’ sham election in 2010 to another year. But there has no date set yet, sources said.
Reason is failing the current SPDC’s plan to transform the ceasefire groups to the Border Guard Force (BGF). Most of the major ceasefire groups from 17th ceasefire groups had refused to accept the regime’s pressure even before May 2008 referendum. Regime had pressured the ceasefire groups to disarm and setup the political parties to join the election in early 2008.
Four major ceasefire groups apart from smaller ethnic ceasefire groups; KIO, UWSA, Ko Khan and SSA (North) collectively rejected the regime offer to disarm in terms of new constitution. Regime’s second attempt of transforming into border guard force but failed.
Top generals come to reach the agreement that postponement of election and they need more time to review the post election outcome, sources said. However, one of the Burmese media moguls said that “if regime wanted to postpone the 2010 election, ceasefire issue is not the case but Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is a key factor for their political landscape. They might realize that her case and peoples’ frustration might be the issue.”
