Thai political crisis: Arisamun arrested, red shirts block roads near court

Police have arrested Arisamun Pongruengrong, who led protesters to storm a press hall of a Pattaya Hotel which was hosting Asean Summit on Saturday. The invasion forced Abhisit Government to cancel the summit which was attended by eight Asian leaders.

The arrest angered red shirted protesters who have rallied at a site in front of the Government House. Upon hearing the news, they moved from the site to Criminal Court on Ratchada Phisek Road where Arisamun was taken to hear the charge.

They then blocked all roads in front of the Court at about 11.30am. They allowed vehicles to use only one lane, triggering traffic jams around the area.

They claimed their rally at the court was aimed at showing moral support to Arisamun. Pheu Thai MP Karun Hosakun is there to seek Arisamun's release on bail.

Arisamun said in a press conference after claiming victory at the hotel that Abhisit was a killer and liar as he ordered shooting of two red shirted protesters, one was killed. Police later denied the claimm saying they were both alive.

The arrest came just a few hours after the premier vowed to take legal action against leader of the Saturday protest.

He asked the public to wait for a few days more as he vowed to prosecute all the people mastermind the protests and violence. He called "enemies of the countries."
