Sondhi moved to secret location

Wounded People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leader Sondhi Limthongkul was quietly moved from Vajira Hospital on Friday afternoon to a secret location after surgery for wounds received in an ambush early Friday.

The hospital's senior executive said Mr Sondhi left the hospital for safety reasons, and to ensure his privacy. It was not announced where he was moved to.


Surgeons removed bullet shrapnel from his skull and operated to releave bleeding in his brain.

Mr Sondhi's car was attacked as he was going to the studios of ASTV in Bangkok early on Friday morning.

His secretary was also injured and his driver critically wounded by attackers in a pickup who unleased a hail of fire from automatic assault rifles. A dud M79 grenade was also found at the scene of the attack.

The PAD issued a statement condemning those behind the assassination attempt on Mr Sondhi and called on the government to revamp the structure of some security units as a state of emergency imposed in the capital had proved unhable to prevent the ambush.

The group called on Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to remove the national police chief and the head of the intelligence unit for being ineffective in their jobs.
