Convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra said he will return to Thailand once democracy and righteousness are restored in the country.
While speaking in Dubai to the Foreign Correspondents' Club in Hong Kong via video conference on Thursday, Thaksin said he has always been loyal to the royal institution ever since he was prime minister and until now.
When asked how he would deal with the country's economic downturn, the ex-premier said he is ready to do anything for his beloved country but he has not been given the opportunity.
Thaksin believed Thai people will stand up and fight for democracy and righteousness in the country, and once they are attained, he would return to help the country.
The fugitive former prime minister claimed that he is short on money after most of his assets were frozen by the government.
"I just have enough to finance my traveling and living standard," said Thaksin.
"I do not know whether I should condemn or thank the military junta that has frozen my assets in Thailand, otherwise I probably would have invested a lot in the stock exchange and lost it," he joked.
