Thai Politics: Thaksin's UK visa not restored

By: BangkokPost.com

The British government has not reversed its revocation of fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's UK residence visa, his personal spokesman Pongthep Thepkanjana said on Wednesday.

The spokesman said Thaksin had not applied to have the cancellation of his residence visa lifted and there was no news that the British government intended to restore it.

Mr Pongthep said his boss has accepted the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Hong Kong's invitation to give a speech about the financial crisis, political instability and the lessons learned from Thailand.

He will deliver the speech via video conference next Thursday.

The speech was orginally set for Monday, but it was cancelled after the government announced it would make an effort to extradite him should his presence in Hong Kong be confirmed.
