Thai Politics: PM, 5 ministers facing censure

The opposition Puea Thai party filed a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and five cabinet ministers on Thursday.

The motion also targets Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij, Deputy Finance Minister Pradit Phataraprasit, Deputy Interior Minister Boonjong Wongtrarat and Interior Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul, Puea Thai MP Chalerm Yubamrung said after filing the motion on Thursday.

Mr Chavarat was the last to be added to the list. Mr Chalerm denied the last-minute change was on ''orders from abroad'',

The party decided not to include Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban in the censure debate because Puea Thai had insufficient evidence to prove that King Power Group donated 100,000 baht to each Democrat MP, he said.

The censure debate would last two full days.

Mr Chalerm dismissed claims by the Democrat party the information Puea Thai would present against the ministers was old-hat and posed no threat to the government.

He said the Democrats had not seen the information.

The filing of the no-confidence motion came a day after the Puea Thai party lodged a motion for the impeachment of Mr Abhisit.

It accused him of violating the constitution to attain office and of abuse of power.
