Political rollercoaster in Thailand seemed to be end of a long soap opera. This might be the last moment of powerful political figures. Indeed, current power clique used to have a parliamentarian system as its power tool. Within a few days, there would be a solution of political conflicts between those who have power by which they could build their own interest and powerful groups who prefer to keep power away from money politics.
"Former Prime Minister Thaksin knows how to play with parliamentarian institution with financial resources and how to lure the voters who have no or little knowledge of differences between power and own interest. Moreover, he used to sue his opponents and critics with heavy penalty with millions of Thai currency and so that people did not dare to against him and his reign for a long time." A Thai influential politician told BDD.
In the case of Burma, generals use a different strategy to hold the power; fear and hopeless. Many Burmese feel and know that current SPDC or previous BSPP are not their choice. However all attempts to overthrow the government were severely punished. From 1988 to nowadays, regime's scary strategy seemed still working but no one knows how long it will take.
Former PM Thaksin's political alliance, Newin Chidchob, leader of a group of northeastern MPs, Tuesday assured Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva of support from his group for the Democrat's bid to lead the next government.
Unlike Thailand, Burmese generals are able to hold the power with costly prices, downturn economy, social and political. They do not care the country's situation in order to keep the power in their hands. None of the mid level generals ever show their interest of the people and sake of the country as Newin Chidchob did today.
SPDC generals should realize that Thai political changes might pressure the current Burma political landscape. Burmese generals should learn that one man show of power might not be very comfortable if something is wrong or someone who has enough power to challenge.
