CEDAW Conference and Burmese delegation's answers in Geneva

A Burmese UN permanent mission's quick answer turned laughing all delegates at the CEDAW while international women groups grilled the Burmese mission at the conference. Women legislatures and other women NGOs did raise their concerns about Burmese women under discrimination and torture and rapes.

The women groups questioned HE Wana Maung Lwin, a Burmese ambassador to UN permanent mission about did your junta arrest Daw Aung San Suu Kyi because of she is a woman. Burmese ambassador answered "our government arrested not only women but also men" The government of Burma never discriminates against women, he added.

The junta mission presented how many miles of new roads, building dams, new railroads but nothing regarding tortures and rapes, report said.
