View: Burmese generals should intervene the current political crisis

BDD

A Burmese well-known journalist suggested that mid level Burmese generals could persuade senior general Than Shwe for having face meeting with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for the sake of the country’s failed state condition.

The generals are fully aware that 2010 election is not a solution for Burma’s existing problems. Solution means she and senior general might have to settle the differences. She may be an assurance of transitional period.

One of the generals close associates said that 2010 election is another phase of challenging for Burma army. Currently generals are enjoying elitism and special favors from current regime. But when executive brunch would handle the country, generals who decided to stick with army may lose the opportunities than today.

There were reportedly discussed about future responsibility among the top generals, who will be a commander in chief, who will be president and who will be prime minister of Burma in 2010 election. They are sure that one of the current young generals will oversee the army and when someone will be a president. President will have a real power or not, no one can predict currently.

Balance of power between real power with guns and the executive power backed by army become more tension in the future.

“They might not listen to each other when senior general would leave from power. If one group misses the major point, the other takes all. Regime will have more problems if they install the puppet government without other democratic groups. The problem is within the army. Let’s see…” journalist stressed.
